Isophorone is a slow-evaporating cyclic ketone solvent valued for its excellent solvency power across a wide range of hard-to-dissolve resins including epoxy, polyurethane, vinyl and chlorinated rubber. Its high boiling point and low evaporation rate make it ideal as a tail solvent in high-solids coatings and as a levelling agent. It is also used as a chemical intermediate in the production of isophorone diamine (IPDA) and isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI).
